Hello! I've got 25 facts to share with you guys today!

8. In many cultures, eagles flying overhead have been seen as supernatural omens.
9. Several eagle omens appear in Homer's Iliad and Odyssey.
10. Birds are not mammals; they lay eggs. The platypus lays eggs, though; is it a bird?
11. The platypus, contrary to popular belief, is not a bird. It is a reptile...right? Right, right. Just looked it up.
12. Bats are the only mammals with wings. Does that mean they're birds?
13. Bats, contrary to popular belief, are not birds. They are mammals.
14. The peacock was the favorite bird of famous 20th-century writer Flannery O'Connor. She used it as Christian symbolism in her story "The Displaced Person." Be warned before you read, though; all her stories end quite morbidly.
15. Male peacocks are prettier than female peacocks. Same thing with Betta fish. Are they peacocks?
16. Betta fish are not peacocks.
17. The male northern cardinal is a bright red color with black feathers on its head. The female northern cardinal, on the other hand, looks like this.

18. Many birds have feathery crests at the back of their heads, such as the northern cardinal.
19. The northern cardinal is one of the prettiest species of birds in the world.
20. The St. Louis Cardinals are going to win the 2013 World Series this year.
21. There was once a bird, named the elephant bird, that stood more than 10 feet tall.
22. Elephant birds' egg remains have been found, ranging up to 3 feet in circumference.
23. Elephant birds would kick butt if they were alive today. So would dodos.
24. The ibis used to be worshiped in ancient Egypt. That's not very surprising, though; the ancient Egyptians worshiped just about everything under the sun...including the sun.
25. CARDINALS!!!!! WRATH OF THE RALLY SQUIRREL!!!!!!

So, there you go! 25 (more or less) bird facts. If you couldn't tell I'm a huge fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, and of baseball in general. Feel free to check out the elephant bird, those things must have been amazing when they were alive and roaming free. Unfortunately they have long been extinct, but there are remains that prove their existence. They are theorized to have died out because of human expansion between 0 and 1000 AD.

That's it for now, bye!

P.S. I'm working on a short story, but it might be a while. I promise some writing soon!

  1. Interesting 'facts' . . . I've never heard of the elephant bird. I liked #24 best. That was funny.

  2. #24 was really good. I agree with Leilani. And the platypus is a mammal, not a reptile. Just looked it up.

    1. Yes, the reptile thing was meant as a joke. I couldn't quite phrase it right, though. :/
